Samantha Coates is an Australian pianist and teacher with over three decades of experience in both private and group piano tuition. She is also the author and publisher of BlitzBooks, a music education series that has brought fun and laughter to the areas of music theory, instrumental technique and sight reading.

Like many piano students, Samantha did not enjoy practising piano when she was younger, but luckily her parents made sure she persevered. A few years later she was accepted into the Conservatorium High School, and continued on to the Sydney Conservatorium, ending up with a Bachelor of Music degree majoring in piano performance. (Needless to say, her parents were very pleased with themselves.)

Samantha has had extensive experience as a solo performer, accompanist and lecturer, and is regularly invited to present at conferences on a wide range of pedagogical topics, both in Australia and overseas. Her most recent international presentations were at the National Conference of Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP) in Chicago, at the Music Teachers’ National Association (MTNA) in Baltimore and at the 2017 and 2018 Music and Drama Expos in London. This year she will appear at several conferences in the US.

In her spare time Samantha enjoys giving volunteer piano recitals at aged care facilities, tailoring her programs to enhance memory and recall for the residents. She also loves chocolate, long beach walks and watching movies with her family.
